Growing your gardenDoes your County have an Extension Office? Chances are that is does. In 1914 the government passed what is called the Smith Lever Act.This Act mandated that the Federal Government provide the funding through the US Department of Agriculture so that each state could establish an Agricultural Extension Office. These offices are strictly educational, and have become the ‘go to’ place for anyone seeking information on anything agricultural.

Here in Henderson County, the Extension Office assists us in any ongoing issues we may have in our yards or gardens. These County Extension Offices are manned by real professionals, and there are so many ways that they can help you in anything related to agriculture, no matter how big or small. They are the first place I look for when I move to a new area, because I know that I will be setting up a garden and they will know exactly what I need to do for the particular area to get the space ready and just right for what I want to do.

There is so much that the Extension Office can do to assist you. Not only do they help with plants, but in raising animals as well. They are the ones that have created the 4H program and fairs, and so much more. If you are interested in The Henderson County Extension Office, check out their website or give them a call at (828)697-4891. You can visit them at their office, located in Jackson Park, right across from the baseball field.

Happy Gardening!

Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital and Veterinary Emergency Hospital

Located at 205 North Highland Lake Road, the Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital has been open for a little over two years now.  Their location is just south of Downtown Hendersonville, in The Village of Flat Rock.

We have many good Veterinary Doctors in the area, but until we got the Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital, we had no emergency facilities. If one of our pets was in distress or in an accident after hours, we would have taken them to a hospital in Asheville. REACH has been a great provider for our emergencies, but the drive to Asheville is long, and with a sick or injured pet, was quite stressful to drive.

So the Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital has been a very welcome addition to the Hendersonville area. I have had to use their services several times over the last two years, and I have to say they are a wonderful place to go for emergencies. They have genuine care for my pets, and have always provided the best services.

Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital’s office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 5:30. But they are open 24/7 for emergencies. Here is their website.

If you are new to the area and need a new vet, this may be the place to come. You can read about the Owners and the staff at Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital.

Call them in an emergency and know they will be the best at what they do. (828) 697-7767 24 hours a day.
