Highland Lake is located in The Village of Flat Rock NC and is a Unique Community of Homes, Businesses and Neighbors, located just south of Historic Downtown Hendersonville, and the big city of Asheville. Here you will find a town within a town, that really has everything.
There are several areas for living within Highland Lake and each have their own feel and look. Starting on the east side of Highland Lakes 20+ acres, you will find homes that are Craftsman Style. There are porches along the front of the homes, encouraging neighbors to be neighbors.
The thing I love about this part of Highland Lake is seeing all of the beautiful yards. I don’t think there is a member in this community that doesn’t absolutely love to garden, and it really shows. Everywhere you turn there are beautiful colors and landscaping. I love to come here to get ideas for my own garden.
The first time I drove through this community, I was not sure how I felt about the closeness of the homes. But after years of looking at all of the homes for sale, I have come to appreciate the attention the builders placed on making them close and yet, each is built for privacy from within. And each have unique interiors, with special finds here and there. The window placement and the level of each home has been considered carefully and you will never see into a neighbors home. It has the feel of being in a close neighborhood, but with privacy from within.
There are always neighbors walking and biking along the streets, and I always see people stopping to talk to each other. It is a very friendly community.
Another neighborhood within Highland Lake is the Garden Hamlet. These are a collection of small cottages built around an open field of goats and donkeys, a meadow of flowers and vegetable gardens and greenhouses. Walk the meadow and enjoy looking at the gardens and animals.
The South Lake area of Highland Lake is now under construction. Here you will be able to watch the seasons change from reflections in the lake as Blue Herons enjoy the lake with you. Tucked in a secluded area of the community, these will be cluster homes. Enjoy nature and the lake, which will make you feel as if every day is a vacation! But you can live here year round!
Amenities in this community include: The Season’s Restaurant, The Highland Lake Inn, The LakeHouse Lodge and Spa, Flat Rock Fitness, The Highland Lake Golf Club, The Yoga Studio at Highland Lake, and the farm and garden experience at the Hamlet.
Season’s Restaurant, surrounded by gardens, is in the center of the community. It is known for the best food in town and has beautiful views of the gardens from it’s large windows, making it a great country dining experience. Their Sunday Brunches are known as the best, served from 10:30 until 2:00.
The Lakehouse Lodge and Spa is situated in the woods along the Lake Shore of the Highland Lake community. The Adirondack Style Lodge is a great place to get away from everything city. With charming suites, and spas and massage available, you’ll love being pampered into a relaxed state. Enjoy views of the lake and woods as you walk through the property. Or enjoy sitting in one of the many comfortable Highland Lake areas while you listen to the birds and nature.
You will find all kinds of events going on at the Lodge, and you can coordinate your visit with one of these events for an added adventure.

Windsor Forest is a very desirable neighborhood where homes sell more quickly than many other neighborhoods. In 2010 six homes sold in the $194,000 to $268,000 price range. In 2011 five homes sold in the price range of $202,000 to $251,000 price range. The majority of homes have 3-4 bedrooms and two baths, and average about one half acre in size.
Currently there are two homes for sale. One a 4 bedroom, 3 and 1/2 bath on .35 acres for $258,500. The other a 3 bedroom, 2 bath on .42 acres for $239,000.
